Each section contains detailed steps on how to perform that task.

Note:  This HOW TO is meant as a way to get people who are new the Permavine up and listening to the music on the Permavine.  For more detailed information regarding the Shorten format and other things pertaining to Permavine or etree, visit one of these sites:

Copying the SHN files to your hard drive

Put the Permavine into your CD-Rom drive

Verifying the SHN files using the MD5 file

Start up the mkw Audio Compression Tool (mkwACT) and drag and drop the .MD5 file, from the directory you copied the CD into, onto the mkwACT program screen.

After you do this, mkwACT will begin verifying all of the .SHN files.  The .SHN files must be in the same directory as the .MD5 file is for mkwACT to verify them.

Once mkwACT has verified all of the .SHN files, it will give you this message.  If they don't, you will get an error message saying which files failed.  You will need to copy them again.

Your .SHN files are ready to be used!

Converting the SHN files to WAV files

First, Start up mkwACT and select File Options from the Options Menu...

Make sure that the Output directory is where you want the .WAV files to be copied (in blue).  Also, uncheck the "Delete input files after lossless (MKW or SHN) processing" checkbox (in yellow)

Start up mkwACT and drag and drop the .SHN files onto the program window...

After you drop the files onto mkwACT, it will begin converting each file.

The files will be placed where you set your output file to (in the beginning of this section).

Making an Audio CD

Because of the different types of CD Burning utilities and the limited resources of the team, we have tutorials on how to make Audio CD's using only Roxio's Easy CD Creator and Ahead's Nero Burning Rom software packages.

At this time, we do not have a tutorial for making an Audio CD.  However, etree has excellent FAQ's for this.  Please visit the etree FAQs for more information
